Actually it is. Sorry. Couldn’t help but play around with the words. But it is ALL about your business. Just as I have taken leadership of my team, I have also taken ownership of my business. My business is more important to me than anyone else with exception of maybe my wife. I alone (and my Lord) take full responsibility for how my business fails and succeeds. If my business is not producing the income I want, I am not going to look around me for a convenient person to blame. I look to myself and what changes I must make to succeed.
Yesterday I was involved in an interview with a person I have casually known for about 3 years. I wasn’t prepared for the rampage of thoughts that came out of this persons head. He was a victim. At least that is how he portrayed himself. No doubt that in the past few years, he has gotten hosed by the economy and he lost everything or at least that is what he thought. He was angry at a lot of things and a lot of people all the way from Wall Street to the government system. He trusted nothing and no one. Hence he found himself in his own words, “Alone on an island”. What a sad testimony. But many of the things of our lives that happen to us are self-inflicted. Not everything is but most of the time that is true.
As I have shared with many of you, I have had my fair share of challenges and grief. Fortunately for me I have not lost property or maybe some other valuables. I have long held onto the thought that yes maybe the market can wreck me financially and maybe the government can make my life a living hell. But the one thing that no one person or government can’t take away from me is my free will and my determination to keep my freedom and to never subjugate myself to tyranny. I also believe that I possess in me that right attitude to build and rebuild if necessary, any kind of business I want. Do you?
To many times we want and/or expect people to give us something for nothing without thought as to how much it may have cost that person from with we are requiring goods and services. This gentlemen yesterday said, “I want leads and I don’t want to pay for them”. Well who do you think is going to pay for them? Does he believe that they are free? And besides, I had given him a clear message and path on how to a sustainable and never ending supply of leads…but only if he would go to work. He balked at my answer and said that he had burned all of his associations and relationships and besides, the ones he did have are all in the same boat as he is…poor in pocket and I would bet poor in spirit. Is it any wonder that with an attitude that he carries around with him that he is struggling? But he can change it if he chose to right now!
We are all individually responsible for our own businesses. But the real wonder of effort and attitude is when you apply yourself show the world around you that you are willing to do whatever it takes and to take ownership for your actions, the doors of opportunity swing wide open and a host of partners will rush to your door because they see in you a belief. That belief translates into action and action produces prosperity and a sense of a winner. People like being around winners. It’s infectious and it’s fun. Your partners sense it and so do your customers.
I certainly have my hands full with the team I have assembled. I have got some great guys to work with. I hope that when you read this that you understand how grateful I am to have you on my team. It is my hope and prayer that you will all prosper exceedingly. I am certainly committed to you all to make that happen. But remember that this is the same attitude that you will all have in your own team members. I hope we all enter into each day not with a sense of entitlement, but a sense of thankfulness and a vision to do great things and positively affect all those we come into contact. What a gift that is if we can simply end the day and say to ourselves (and our Lord), “I gave it my all and I left nothing on the table”.
